Overview
From December 2 to 6, 2024, Core CarbonX conducted a transformative site visit to key locations across Karnataka, engaging with farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and partners to bolster the implementation of the Regenerative Agriculture Cluster Development Program. Spanning the districts of Kolar and Mysuru, this initiative reinforces sustainable farming practices and aligns with global climate action goals.
Key Activities and Insights
- Awareness and Engagement Sessions
Farmers in Rajenahalli, Kallahalli, and other villages were introduced to regenerative techniques, emphasizing natural farming, cover cropping, crop rotation, reduced chemical dependency, and the economic and environmental benefits of improved soil health. - FPO Capacity Building
Collaborative discussions with the Ayyangaar Horticulture FPO highlighted opportunities for streamlining supply chains, market access, and continuous training to adopt regenerative practices. - Field Visits and Soil Assessments
Field visits to farmer plots revealed varying soil organic carbon (SOC) levels, necessitating targeted soil management plans. These visits included soil sample collection for lab analysis to create customized interventions. - Training and Rabi Season Planning
Field associates received focused training on regenerative farming practices, equipping them to support farmers in their transition. Collaborative planning for Rabi crops underscored the economic viability and sustainability of diverse cropping patterns.
Program aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
This initiative is more than just farming; it’s about achieving global impact. Our work contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: Resilient farming systems for food security.
- SDG 8 – Decent Work: Creating economic opportunities in rural communities.
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption: Promoting sustainable resource use.
- SDG 13 – Climate Action: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through carbon sequestration.
Impact and Way Forward
- Farmers were onboarded for regenerative farming practices, paving the way for enhanced soil health and sustainable crop yields.
- Our partner organization WayCool pledged to support market access for farmers, ensuring fair pricing and reduced post-harvest losses.
- Ongoing training programs and tailored interventions will address challenges and strengthen the program’s long-term impact.
The visit underscored the enthusiasm among farmers for regenerative farming practices and the potential for transformational impact. Through collaboration, capacity building, and innovative solutions, Core CarbonX and its partners are committed to creating a sustainable and resilient agricultural future.
