India is one of the world’s largest carbon emitters and has been taking steps to address this issue by promoting sustainable development through renewable energy, afforestation, and other measures. Carbon markets have been identified as a key mechanism to incentivize emission reductions and promote sustainable development. India has also been a massive carbon credit exporter between 2010 and 2022, issuing 278 million credits in the voluntary carbon market through the end of 2022 and making up 17% of the global supply.
